Official Kickoff of the Department’s 50th Anniversary Celebrations

You are invited to attend the official kickoff of the Department’s 50th Anniversary celebrations on Friday, September 17th.

The event will begin with a welcome from the Department, followed by a barbecue and later a poetry reading by UW English alumnus George Elliott Clarke. Come visit your old stomping grounds, chat with current and retired professors, and catch up with other English grads.

Barbecue

The Department is pleased to host an early evening barbecue for alumni.

Place: Weather permitting, the open area between Hagey Hall, Environment 1, and the new School of Accounting building
(Rain Location: The Festival Room, South Campus Hall)
Time: 4:00PM-6:30PM
Cost: $10 per person; advance registration strongly recommended

Poetry Reading

After the barbecue, there will be a poetry reading by UW English alumnus George Elliott Clarke (BA 1984), renowned poet, 2002 Governor General’s Award-winner (for Execution Poems), author of numerous plays, poetry collections, scholarly texts, and a novel, George and Rue (2005).

Parking

Visitor parking is available in lot H (located across from Hagey Hall) and lot C (located on Seagram Drive). A campus map is available at http://www.uwaterloo.ca/map/index.php (Note: Lot H is labelled HV on this map).
